Gastric Sleeve Surgery Follow-up:

Dr. Richard Guzman visited our hotel room this morning for a follow-up with Leslie. Dr. Guzman or Dr. Rumbaut visited every day while in recovery at the hospital, and visited the hotel each day after that.

Back at the hotel today, mostly slept all day as everyone was worn out from the hospital. Leslie is doing good with the liquids, and we got a visit from Dr. Rumbaut.

Monterrey Mexico - Day 6

I woke up before Leslie, and went to get breakfast, what is for breakfast at a Mexican hospital?

Leslie got her first post surgery meal today, broth! mmmm

And dinner for myself at the hospital

I had to make comments on the pictures, because thats all I thought to take pictures of.

The nurses were great, we did have our share of 'Babel' moments, but nothing that we didnt get though intact. Later in the day we met Martha, a nurse who assists with U.S. patients, she wasnt aware we were in the hospital for the first 24hours, but once she was she was always stopping by, helping and chatting with us, her presense was wonderful.

I was so proud of my wife today, she was walking almost immediatly, up and about and in great spirits, and really pressing herself to get well enough to return to the hotel.

Monterrey Mexico - Day 5

Surgery Day

We were up at 5am, after a not so good night of rest with worry. The hotel shuttle was unavailable, and the hotel called us a cab, not only did the cab driver drop us off at a wrong building, but one that was almost totally vacant. Good way to start a day exploring a empty buidling expecting a operation room. On top of that, the cab driver hit me up for cab fare even though the hotel was suposed to have paid him. After the initial confusion, we found the hospital a block away, and wow wow wow, its the nicest hospital I have ever been in.

The admissions office quickly found their best english speaker to help us with the process, very simple as the bill was being paid by the surgeon. And we were escorted to the waiting room. Only one guest was allowed to preop so I got to accompany Leslie back and stay with her during the preperations. I said my goodbyes, and fetched Katherine at the last moment to say goodbye also.

The hours ticked by sitting in the surgical waiting room, there was a large board showing the progress of the roughly dozen operations currently in progress, I did not know which # belonged to Leslie, so in my time of stress I did what any doctor would recomend, I consumed soda after soda, and chainsmoked a pack of cigarettes. At one point we heard the screams of a poor woman who had obviously not revieved the recap of her loved ones surgery she was hoping for, and it was hard to maintain composure.

A hour or so after we had expected, Dr. Rumbault emerged from the surgical preop room with a big smile on his face and I knew that everything was well. He said the surgery had gone perfectly, and we would be able to join her in a few hours in the room once she was out of recovery. Katherine and I retired to one of the courtyards of the hospital and spent the next hour making phone calls and sending emails and IM's, I am sure sprint is going love our bill.

With everything going on, I only took one picture today, Leslie in the room in sweet morphines embrace.

Monterrey Mexico - Day 3

Tommarow it all begins, the testing, the appointments, the preperations for surgery, today Leslie, Kathrine relaxed, for myself it was a work day, and to my suprise the internet connection at the Hampton is crap. I ended up trying a few different spots in the hotel, and ended up hiking to a Startbucks. The internet connection at Starbucks was consistent but slow, making coding over VPN difficult. Luckily I work with a great bunch of people that all worked to pick up my slack today.

Flight to Monterrey Mexico

Made it to Mexico. Leslie is in good spirits, and enjoyed her first flight. The Delta gate agents were great, helping me get bulkhead seats on both flights, and the flight attents were great (the 4 free drinks helped for this review). Upon arrival, I was suprised how large the city is, quite amazing at night. The airport; while walking down the planes built in stairs we got a heafty whiff of a wonderous odor (not that Tallahassee is anybetter with its sewage processing next door), and I got to play stomp the roaches on the way to customs (seriously). Delta lost Kathrine's bag, but was very nice and promised to make good on finding and delivering it. The ride to the hotel was great, Hotel just as nice as any in the U.S., but with much friendlier, eager to please employees.
